What is a Cookie?

A cookie is information stored on your computer by a website you visit. Cookies usually save your settings, such as your preferred language or address, for the website. Later, when you reopen the same website, the browser sends back the cookies that belong to that site. This allows the website to display information tailored to your needs.

Cookies can store a wide range of information, including personal details (such as your name or email address). However, this information can only be stored if you enable it – websites cannot access information you have not provided and cannot access other files on your computer. The default activities of storing and sending cookies are not visible to you. However, you can change your browser settings to decide whether to approve or reject requests for storing cookies, delete saved cookies automatically when you close the browser, and similar actions.

How to Disable Cookies?

By disabling cookies, you decide whether to allow cookies to be stored on your computer. Cookie settings can be controlled and configured in your web browser. For information on cookie settings, select the web browser you are using:

Firefox: Manage Cookies

Internet Explorer: Manage Cookies

Google Chrome: Manage Cookies

Opera: Manage Cookies

For other web browsers

If you disable cookies, you may not be able to use some of the functionalities on websites.

What are Temporary Cookies?

Temporary cookies or session cookies are removed from your computer when you close the web browser. They allow websites to store temporary data, such as items in a shopping cart.

What are Persistent Cookies?

Persistent or stored cookies remain on your computer after closing the web browser. They allow websites to store information, such as login name and password, so you do not need to log in every time you visit a particular site. Persistent cookies can remain on your computer for days, months, or even years.

What are First-Party Cookies?

First-party cookies come from the website you are viewing and can be persistent or temporary. These cookies allow websites to store data that will be used again the next time you visit that site.

What are Third-Party Cookies?

Third-party cookies come from advertisements on other websites (such as pop-up or other ads) that are on the site you are viewing. These cookies can track internet usage for marketing purposes.
